. appearance
Shai looks very much human, despite the fact that he is a golem and was created with volcanic rocks and magic. His skin is pale. When someone touches him, however, it is easy to tell that he is not human; his skin doesn't feel like skin. Instead, it feels dry and harder than skin should feel, though softer than a rock. His hair is red-orange and choppy, and he has eyes the color of blood. There is a mark tattooed in red on his left cheek, a mark his creator put there to show that he belonged to him. Since he was created, he has looked like an attractive teenage boy. He stands at about 5'7". Do to his lack of emotions, Shai seems only capable of two facial expressions - the first is blank and emotionless; the second is the expression of a curious child. Shai wears a long, high-collared black coat with no shirt underneath, which exposes his chest, along with a pair of black pants and boots. A leather necklace with a black feather hanging from it is around his neck. When cut, he bleeds red like a human, but his blood has a strange shimmery quality to it, which also exposes his species.
. personality
Because he was created, and not born, Shai has difficulty processing his, and others', emotions. They are a foreign thing to him, and he often has to think about what he is feeling at the moment. The one emotions he has mastered, however, is curiosity; the golem is curious about many, many things. He doesn't know much about the world. Do to his lack of knowledge and his curiosity, he is almost like a child. His purpose when he was created was to serve, and so he tries to serve in whatever way he can. In fact, Shai finds it rather difficult to ignore any order do to his purpose, so he tends to avoid telling those who would use it against him what he was created to do.
Likes:
- Learning new things
- Serving others
Dislikes:
- Being confused about emotions
- Those who would use his purpose against him
. history
Creation
In his home, the demon worked furiously. He was creating a golem to serve him, as all of his servants seemed to be incompetent. The daemon was using spells that he had stolen from the elves in order to create the perfect servant, and as he worked, he chanted, "You shall serve," over and over again between the creation spells. The process took days to complete, and when his golem was finally finished, naked and blinking at the sudden light, and had been given life, the daemon was rather pleased.
"Good, good, it's about time I had a servant who wasn't such an idiot!"
No sooner had the statement left his mouth had the old daemon realized something; he had not specified that this golem would serve him and only him, only that he would serve. Snapping his teeth together at the realization, he seethed in his own anger at his mistake before shaking his head. "No matter. If you don't leave here, then you can't really serve anyone else, can you? Now, you need a name. Hmm... how about Ci Shai Maesaer? It means 'he who serves' in Elvish, so I've been told. Oh, what am I asking you for? You'll take whatever name I give you and like it, won't you?"
The old daemon chuckled.
"Now then, let's put you to work..."
Wonders of the World
Shai stared out the window of the home he shared with the old daemon, wondering what was out there. It had been 50 years since his creation, and in that time he had served his master well. Also in that time, he had stepped foot out of their home maybe once.
No, no...
Never, actually.
About ten years ago, the golem had learned what curiosity was, and it was the only emotion he seemed to be actually able to feel. Well, that wasn't entirely true... he could feel happiness and sadness and anger, but he had to think about what he was feeling at that moment. Curiosity just seemed to happen for him. He wanted to act on it.
He heard the footsteps, but he didn't look in the direction they were coming from. That is, until his master spoke. "Staring out the window again, eh? Stop that. It'll cloud your mind and instead of working you'll be thinking about what was out there." Shai obeyed, stepping back away from the window and glancing at the old daemon with a curious, child-like expression.
"What is out there?"
The demon sighed and shook his head.
"It doesn't matter. You weren't created to ask questions about the world, Shai. You were created to do what I told you to. Now, I need you to create something for me."
Death
He had been working diligently to clean up the kitchen when he noticed that he hadn't heard his master speak in quite a while. Normally the old daemon was cursing something, as he seemed to have gotten into a habit of. Shai's curious nature couldn't let him not investigate, but the orders he had received from his master prevented him from leaving until he was done.
Then, the golem investigated.
Stepping through the house, he searched for the demon unsuccessfully until, at last, Shai opened the room to his bedroom.
There, slumped against the bed, lay his master.
The golem jogged quickly over to him, asking him if he was alright and lifting the old daemon up properly onto the bed. It was only then that he noticed the demon's eyes were open, and that they were very much dull and dead.
Dead...
His master was dead?
Shai stared at him for a few moments before stepping back away from the bed, leaving the demon there. What was he to do now? The golem had never been without his creator to tell him what to do. What was this feeling? He had been told what it was before.
Confusion.
That was it.
He was confused, apparently.
Leaving the bedroom, he made his way into the front room where he sat in one of the chairs there. The golem could continue to live here, but...
His eyes flicked to the front door.
He had never stepped outside into the world before.
Maybe now was he chance?
His curious nature is what made Shai stand and stepped toward the door, pull it open, and step out into the unknown world.
Receiving the Artifact
Only a few days had passed since he had left his master's home, and Shai had wandered the forest aimlessly since then, fulfilling his need to know what everything was. He had encountered a few fae who had examined him curiously, wondering about him, and they had indulged to answer the questions he had for them.
Along with those questions, another had been answered.
The fae had asked him when he couldn't be out.
Shai hadn't known what they meant.
He quickly learned.
When the sun was directly overhead, if he went out into it, Shai noticed that his hardened skin began to burn. He didn't feel it, so the golem was lucky to have noticed the effect, but that probably wasn't supposed to happen. Stepping back into the shadows, he found that he was safe.
From noon until 1:00 he had to stay in the shadows every day.
Although he mostly met fae, it was different today.
As he walked, Shai caught sight of a human with wings that were pure black. The creature didn't seem to notice him at first as he walked toward it, but when it did the creature hissed at him and took flight, a feather drifting down to the ground as it separated from the wings. Curiously, Shai had picked up the feather. It had a strange beauty to it, and the golem decided to keep it, fashioning a necklace out of it.
He didn't realize the feather was magical.
