"Is he okay?" Tobias spluttered, stumbling back to rip his arm from Gavin's grasp. "Just what's wrong with you?" This he directed at Gavin. "Do you really expect for my leg to just spontaneously combust into bleeding?" He stared at him with wide eyes, trying not to be freaked out by his behavior. Just what was wrong with him? Why was he suddenly trying to be his best friend? This was one of those terrible tricks where he ended up being pushed down the stairs, wasn't it? He glanced up as he noticed a solitary feather floating down from the ceiling. That wasn't a good sign. He needed to either a) calm down, or b) get out of there before other people could see his danger reaction kicking in. He grabbed Gavin's arm. Well fine, if he wanted to play best friend... "Come on, Gav. You said you'd help me study for history. " If he was going to call him Toby, he was going to call him by an annoying nickname too. It was only fair. Dragging him from the library, he quickly shut the door, pressing himself against the wall. "Okay, leave now please." He squeezed his eyes shut as it began raining feathers. "Strange... I wonder where those are coming from," he commented, as if he didn't know. He forced a neutral expression onto his face, as if Gavin hadn't totally made him nervous enough to make it rain feathers. Yes, he would pretend that it wasn't him, even when the feathers were only raining down in a six foot radius around him.

Well…That was odd. Raylene was more than a little concerned about both of the strange boys. Her eyes went to the feather that seemingly came out of nowhere. Yep. Odd. She looked at Connor. “What do you make of that?” She wanted to make sure she was not the only one who was more than a little confused and possibly rather disturbed as well.
Curiosity enveloped her and as she felt the urge to follow them. She was unsure of both of the boys’ mental health . Then again, a lot of the scholarship kids seemed to be socially awkward. Perhaps this was just an extreme case.
Gavin’s words propelled themselves, unbidden, into her mind. Stuck up. The accusation made her sad. Raylene never thought of herself as better than anyone else. Well, except for when she was. But she never held that against them! Unless they deserved it…Did that make her stuck up? The junior bit her lip as she thought about it. It was all so gray and probably a matter of opinion anyway.
He also called her popular. Was that true too? Raylene supposed people admired her. A lot of people, actually. None of them were close friends. It was all rather superficial and lonely.
And, finally, her mind focused on the other thing Gavin said. Stalker. She tried to picture him in math class, but couldn’t really. She knew his face, of course. He sat next to her didn’t he? Raylene was pretty sure he did. She paid more attention in that class than in any of her others because she hated math.
Gavin had never seemed like a stalker before. She would have to pay closer attention now. She was not sure how she felt about the idea. Surely it was only a metaphor…Even if she did not understand it.

Gavin was oblivious to the actual radius of the feathers, instead simply delighted at the fact that there were feathers falling from seemingly nowhere. "You know, I have a feather collection back home. I can't really go look for them these days, but back home I had all day to run around looking for feathers. Odd though, I have no idea what kind of feathers these are. Do they look like dove feathers to you? Sorta look like it to me, but whatever. You don't like birds, I suppose? Most people don't, I mean, but you know." He had nothing to say whatsoever. He was stalling for time, really. "My uncle thinks they look creepy. Freaked him out when we got all of those chickens last summer..."
Once the distraction from the feathers had worn off, he remembered that his new friend wanted him to leave. "I would leave, but I'm just going the same way you are. No point, really. Might as well walk together. Right?"
Ugh, and there was still math waiting for him back in the dorm. Math! "I've still got so much homework to finish. You?" Aaaaaaaand: He was back to small talk. If this hadn't been so awkward Gavin wouldn't have been talking quite as much. Strange paradox, of course, but he couldn't help it.

Tobias pursed his lips. It seemed his new 'friend' wouldn't be so easy to get rid of. "Look kid. I don't know who you are, well, I do actually, you're Gavin, but that's beside the point." He hissed slightly, starting that sentence again. "I don't know what you're up to, but you're a creep. Have you ever thought that maybe, if you weren't stalking that girl she might like you? And me! Why are you following me around! I never did anything to you!"
Yes, Tobias didn't quite get the concept of friendship it seemed. Either that or Gavin really was just a creep. "... They're dove feathers by the way. Sometimes they're swan feathers, but today they're dove." He swallowed at that. Well, that certainly gave away just where the feathers came from. His stomach twinged with anxiety. Great, as if people didn't have enough to mock him for now they could mock him for not being able to control his magic when he was nervous. The mere thought made the feathers rain down harder. "Math? Oh yes, math..." He brushed away the swan feather that had joined the dove. "I need to do that. Really, so, um... I'll be leaving now." He began running off, rain of feathers following him.

Connor had watched the exchange between Gavin and Tobias with a quirked eyebrow, finding the pair rather odd as they conversed. It was obvious to him that the one who had fallen didn't really want Gavin's help, but he seemed persistent until the kid gave in and allowed it. Well that was weird. His thoughts seemed to be shared by Raylene, who he had almost forgotten about. Almost, but not quite.
"Seems pretty odd to me. Do you know that Gavin kid?" He seems to know you. Connor, too, had heard what Gavin had told Tobias, and while it didn't seem apparent that the words had really affected Raylene, he wasn't really sure if that was the case. His attention shifted from the topic at the sight of the white dove feather, and Connor blinked in confusion. Oh yeah. Some of the kids here had arcane powers. It must have been one of those two, though it was probably Tobias. The boy himself didn't think he did, unless you counted being stronger and faster than most as a part of the arcane, which he highly doubted.

“Do you know that Gavin kid?"
Raylene was not entirely sure how to answer that question. “I have math with him,” was her only answer. Had they ever spoken before? Raylene could not remember. She did not believe so. She pushed the thought away; it was uncomfortable to think about. There was nothing to be done about the discomfort now, so there was no point in thinking about it. Later. She could deal with it later. The junior gathered her books together and stood, placing them along the bookshelf one at a time exactly where they were meant to go.
She looked at Connor and something akin to awkwardness stole over her, but did not show in her expression. Raylene always looked sure of herself. “It was nice meeting you, Connor.” She smiled a little shyly, not because she was a shy person but because she did not want Gavin calling her stuck up to cloud Connor’s first impression of her. “I’m Raylene.” She had a hard enough time making friends as it was. Sometimes, Raylene was not even sure if she wanted to make friends.

They had math together? So they knew each other a little, then.
Connor blinked, tilting his head ever so slightly as he examined her. He glanced over his shoulder at the place where Tobias and Gavin had disappeared, his eyebrow quirked curiously; well, maybe that kid truly was a stalker, but, hey, whatever floated his boat. Turning back to face her, the boy watched her gather her books which reminded him of the history book in his hands. Oh yeah. All this interaction had distracted him.
A grin formed over his lips. "Nice meeting you too, Raylene." His gaze flicked toward the clock to his side, and the boy sighed slightly. Really, he didn't want to go back to his dorm; all that waited for him there was his research paper, and Connor wanted to procrastinate. He was the type of person who put long-term homework off 'til last minute and then bs'd his way through the whole thing, managing to pass the assignment by a few points.
Looking back to Raylene, the boy smiled sheepishly. "I'd ask if you wanted to get something to eat or something, because I really don't want to go back to my dorm room, but we'd get in trouble if we got caught." Not that he minded if he got in trouble, of course, but Raylene seemed like the type that didn't get in trouble. Ever.

Gavin watched Tobias run off in his rainstorm of feathers for a moment, utterly confused. "...what the hell?" The moment passed, and he started running after him. Toby needed a friend a lot more than he had a few minutes ago, and Gavin be damned if he didn't go help the poor guy. "Wait up, Toby! Seriously! You'll trip again! I like birds! I've got a pet pigeon back home, if that helps! Seriously!" Sprinting along the trail of sponatneous feathers, Gavin found that he didn't have too much trouble catching up with him. "And you're right about Raylene, except for the part where she's rich and could probably date just about anyone here while I'm... from Kansas. Like, the Wizard of Oz part. A freaking Sheep Farm. So now you know me and we're almost technically friends, right?"
"So... You know... You could help me with that whole 'stop stalking and start dating' thing. You're like, the most unrecognisable person in this whole school, so you could totaly sneak around and do spywork or something." Maybe Gavin was a sociopath. That could actually explain quite a lot of it. Best try to talk about someone other than himself for a minute, just in case. "How about this? You help me with that and I help you with that whole feather thing. It's like, magic, right? Shouldn't be too hard. Not that I've ever done any - saw a magic show once when I was ten. The library should have a book about it or something... But we fix the feather thing, and you hook me up with Raylene, and then everyone's happy."

"You? Help me with magic? You don't know the first thing about magic! If you did, you'd know that magic shows aren't real magic! They're nothing but a bunch of charlatans I tel you! Charlatans!" Tobias had always bristled at the mention of magic shows. He hated those that would dupe the masses like that. Absolutely despised them. His gaze flared and the feathers burned up all around him, finally stopping their descent. He turned on Gavin, thrusting his finger out.
"If you think we can hep each other, you're insane! One, you know nothing about magic! Two, I know nothing about girls! Three... You're just so creepy! You need to back off, right now! If my master were here, I'd be shouting 'stranger danger!' at the top of my lungs right now!"
